Foreign Language Teacher for Elementary School
This part-time position will be filled by a foreign language educator with a vast repertoire of children’s songs and games, experience developing and using lesson plans, and an adept ability to create a dynamic and structured classroom environment. A reciprocal relationship of respect is required to effectively involve the students in active and passive elements of language. A candidate for this position will need to be innovative in their approach to not only immerse the child in the living atmosphere of the spoken word but also the world culture of which it is derived. The ideal candidate for the Prairie Moon Waldorf Foreign Language Teacher will have experience with Waldorf philosophy and practice, and a desire to pursue professional development courses in Waldorf education.
Hours: 6 class periods per week
Pay: $20/class period
Primary Duties:
- Plan for and teach twice-weekly language lessons in each elementary class.
- Using the Waldorf curriculum for foreign language, develop and document curriculum and lesson plans.
- Collaborate with class teachers to develop curriculum specific to grade and class.
- Provide written student observations for fall and spring conferences and end of year reports for each class.
Handwork Teacher for Elementary School
This part-time position will be filled by an experienced handwork practitioner with a creative approach to delivery that engages the whole child. Experience developing and utilizing lesson plans, effective classroom management skills, and a knowledge of natural handwork materials and techniques (crochet, knitting, hand sewing and weaving) are essential. This position requires a reverence for the child and his/her encounter of the fiber arts and the process thereof. The ideal candidate for the Prairie Moon Waldorf Handwork Teacher will have experience with Waldorf philosophy and practice, and a desire to pursue professional development courses in Waldorf education.
Hours: 6 class periods per week
Pay: $20/class period

Assistant Early Childhood Teacher
PMWS is seeking an applicant for an early childhood assistant teaching positions starting in August 2010. This position will be for 5 days per week, and will be until at least 1:30, possibly 3:30. The hourly rate range is $9-$10/hour. We are looking for a calm, gentle, caring individual to work under the supervision of our experienced teacher with children aged 3 to 6-years-old. If you have these qualities as well as a love and joy for working with young children in a nourishing environment we welcome your application. Reliability is essential.
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for providing support and assistance to the lead teacher. Regular and on-going communication with the lead teacher will be of the utmost importance. The flexibility to assist in other areas of the school throughout the day is another key aspect of this position.
Hours: 8:30-1:30 (possibly until 3:30)
Total Hours/Week: 25-35
Pay: $9-10
Primary Duties:
- Assist classroom teacher with mealtime preparations and activities (i.e., coloring, painting, beeswax, bread kneading, crafts, etc.), allowing for child participation.
- Assist classroom teacher with transitions and other activities of the day including mealtimes, clean-up, rest, circle, story, outside time, and naptime.
- Pass along parent questions and child observations to classroom teacher.
- Assistant teacher will assume responsibilities of the leader teacher, in lead teacher’s absence.
- Help to keep the classroom clean and neat is an important aspect.
- In consultation with lead teacher, assist with classroom management.

1) Commitment to work for the full academic year
2) Ability to work with the ‘living arts’ of the classroom – cooking, baking, cleaning, sewing, organizing, etc.
3) Interest in anthroposophy and Waldorf education, particularly early childhood
4) Experience/history of working with the young child – for at least a year.
5) In addition, candidates must:
- Submit evidence of a negative TB Test
- Pass a Kansas Bureau of Investigations background check
- Submit a KDHE Health Assessment signed by a medical professional
Preference
1) Not to have own child in his/her own classroom
2) Willingness to participate on school committees
3) Formal education in early childhood development
4) Applicants that have some knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy and/or experience working with young children in a group setting are preferred.
5) Fulfill licensing requirements to be a lead teacher (see requirements below)
Afterschool Grades Position Announcement:
Prairie Moon Waldorf School seeks an afterschool teacher to direct the afterschool program for children in the grades program. The grades program serves children from 1st-6th grade. He or she will be responsible for providing an environment in which the children are nurtured and safe. This afterschool program supports the philosophy of PMWS and works under the guidance of the grades teachers. Reliability is essential.
The ideal applicant possesses leadership qualities and has excellent classroom organization and communication skills. He or she will have fulfilled one of the licensing requirements listed below. The amount of students enrolled in any given day will be up to 16. This program may combine, at times, with the early childhood program.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in Waldorf education to learn more about this educational approach.
Hours: 3:15-5:45 M-Th; 1-5:45 Fridays

Primary Duties:
- Ensure safety of the children.
- Promote children’s self esteem by using positive discipline techniques for classroom management and by treating the children with warmth and respect at all times
- Oversee safe pick up and dismissal of children
- Maintain ongoing communication with the grades teachers concerning classroom observations and parent communication
- Oversee end-of-day daily cleaning and lock up
- Afternoon structure: Outside time, snack, inside games/crafts/music, clean-up.
- When there are no children enrolled in the afternoon, there will be other tasks from lead teachers for this teacher to do (i.e., cut painting paper, help with organizing, etc.)

Afternoon Early Childhood Teacher

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITIONS POSTED ON THIS PAGE (required for afterschool teacher and for afternoon early childhood teacher, and preferred for assistant early childhood teacher).
(1) Option 1:
(A) Five sessions of observation for not less than 2 1/2 consecutive hours per observation in licensed preschools or child care centers. Child care center staff shall plan their observations so that daily activities during morning, lunch, nap time and late afternoon can be observed; and
(B) one year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or one year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools;

(2) Option 2:
(A) Seven to nine semester hours of academic credit or equivalent training in child development or early childhood education; and
(B) three months’ teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or one year of supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools;

(3) Option 3: A child development associate credential.

1st Grade Assistant
Prairie Moon Waldorf School is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable and self-motivated first grade teacher’s assistant for the 2010 fall semester. The person hired for this position will be instrumental in facilitating the combination of an incoming first grade class with a previously established second grade class. The teacher and assistant will orchestrate the transition of these two classes into one.
The ideal candidate will have previous Waldorf experience as well as the ability to intuitively respond to the developmental needs of the young student. The teacher’s assistant needs to be able to complement the current first grade teacher’s style and be willing to follow the lesson plan and daily rhythm. Reliability is essential.
Hours: 8:15am–11am M/W/F, and 8:15am–12:30pm T/Th, while the children are in school for the 2010 fall semester
Hours/Week: approx. 16.75 hours per full week. Some weeks will not be complete due to various events, holidays, and teacher in-services.
Range: $10-$11/hour
Primary Duties: Daily expectations will include but not be limited to assistance with lessons in

A strong candidate will be able to take direction from the lead teacher while being self-directed to meet the needs of the students.
