Prairie Moon’s Winterlight Faire Offers Winter Enchantment
Parents looking for unique children’s activities need look no farther than the annual Winterlight Faire at Prairie Moon Waldorf School.  The annual Winterlight Faire (formerly known as the Autumn Faire) at Prairie Moon Waldorf School is an event that opens the creative richness of Prairie Moon Waldorf School to the greater Lawrence community.

This event marks a critical time in the season when people turn their attention to the warmth of friends, families and community. The Winterlight Faire creates a magical setting for this time, with a unique splendor that is unforgettable to anyone who attends. A variety of hands-on activities are available to faire-goers including hand-dipping beeswax candles in the Craftman Shoppe, making winter nature-scenes with natural materials in the Great Hall, wet-on-wet painting in the Renaissance Room, and children’s portraits in the Russian Tea House.   Entertainment throughout the day will include performances by Waldorf students.  Wholesome delicious food will be available in the café, and parking is free.

In preparation for the Faire talented Prairie Moon parents meet weekly to make various craft items, from castles made out of wood, to beeswax luminaries, to sell at the Faire.

The Winterlight Faire also features a silent auction that includes goods and services ranging from cookbooks and food to health care and auto repair.

This event is one of Prairie Moon’s largest fundraisers for the year.  In the past, these were some of the features of the Winterlight Faire:

  • Silent Auction of Local Goods, Services and Art
  • Wholesome Cafe
  • Russian Tea House
  • Wet-on-wet painting in the Renaissance Room
  • Candlemaking in the Craftman Room
  • Children and Family Holiday Photo Portraits by Insight Photography
  • Live music, featuring performances by the Prairie Moon grades children
    and local musicians
  • A shopping experience
  • Winter landscape (creation of a winter landscape from natural materials for your
    home’s seasonal table)
  • Meadowlark Music, free demonstration
