Annual Giving Campaign

Prairie Moon Waldorf School, a non-profit 501(c) 3, welcomes and encourages people of all cultural, racial, persuasions, social, ethnic and religious backgrounds to join our school community. Just like other independent schools, tuition does not cover the full costs of educating children, therefore every year we incur what is called the “Tuition Gap.” During the 2009-2010 school year, Prairie Moon saw a dramatic increase in enrollment. This is a positive development, yet it is integrally tied to increasing consideration for families requesting tuition assistance.

In the 2008-2009 school year, more than $36,864 was forgiven to families in tuition assistance. This year, 2009-2010, tuition assistance exceeded $100,000, directly impacting on the operating budget. Prairie Moon Waldorf School does not have endowment or other funds to draw from when families qualify for tuition assistance. While we feel the tugging of our school’s growing pains, each year we are blessed with more families who share in the benefits as well as the costs of expansion. At the same time, each new family that comes to Prairie Moon brings their gifts, skills, hopes, and values, which strengthens the school. Each new child in the classroom adds to the social community that is so vital to a Waldorf curriculum. Reaching this balance is of paramount importance as we strive to create a thriving community that is also financially viable. Our intent is that this is a temporary stage in the school’s development as we explore alternative venues to fill this gap in the future. But for now, we need to raise $20,000 to fill this tuition gap between tuition revenue and expenses by May 31, 2010.

We cherish our breadth of events and traditions, integrated art, music, foreign language, practical arts, and extraordinary academic programs. Your gifts are the key to continuing the excellence of the programs of Prairie Moon Waldorf School and the precious community life that unfolds beyond the classroom. Our Annual Giving Campaign relies on the extended generosity of parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, businesses, and special friends in order to make it a success and to help us reach our goals.
